One of These Nights: The Eagles in Concert
When you’re given the opportunity to see a classic 70s band, I would say you should definitely take it. Now, I love classic music but I don’t actively listen to it. Whenever my dad tells me about a classic band coming to town, I usually take him up on the offer because I want to experience it. The Eagles are one of the most classic bands of the 70s in my opinion and it was definitely an amazing concert experience, so here's my review of it!
Overall, The Eagles are an incredibly talented band who have not lost their stuff since their prime - consisting of members Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with guest, Vince Gill, and Deacon Frey, the son of the late Glenn Frey. Although they are all well into their 60's and 70's, except for Deacon, their skills are still way up to par, past the par even for their age. Let's also keep in mind that they played for two and a half hours straight!!! For their opener, they had country singer, Chris Stapleton, and just a disclaimer, country music is really not my kind of music. I will admit, he was very talented, and he had some pretty rock songs that I could vibe with. It was actually kind of nice to sit and listen to an artist instead of filming or taking pictures, but just really be in the moment of a show before it got really hype.
Side note, the concert etiquette around us was so great. I've been to a lot of concerts, and only a few of them have I had bad experiences with the people around me. Most of the people in the crowd were all adults, clearly fans of The Eagles during the 60s, 70s, and so on, so it was interesting being one of the few young adults there and getting to interact with the drunk or sober people around me. It was really sweet to see all of these couples around me enjoying the concert, and almost reminiscing on good times at an Eagles concert.
As classic as The Eagles are, I only actually truly know four songs but I enjoyed it all! I think since they are so classic, I have a major respect for them as a band and still want to experience a concert of theirs in full, even if I'm not their biggest fan. Something really unique about their show was the number of guitars they had. All five members with additional guitarist would play some form of guitar every few songs, so they literally had six guitars on stage at one point or another. SIX! Those songs with six guitars were truly incredible, and it just consistently reminded me throughout the show how truly talented they were. What also really stood out to me was their vocal abilities. They had such CLEAN six-person harmonies, and everyone sang in some way or led a song. Vince Gill and Deacon Frey took over the songs that would have been sung by Glenn Frey, and they did a really fantastic job with them.
Some of my favorite songs performed were actually some that I didn't know very well until I got to the concert. 'Life in the Fast Lane' was one of the last songs performed before the encore, and I never realized how fun of a song it was! It was so full of energy and it was just super fun to listen to. Of course, 'Hotel California' was another one of my favorites, because nearly everyone who knows something about music knows this song. 'Hotel California' was the song that got me interested in The Eagles, and so I was really excited to see it performed live, I mean come on, it's one of the most classic songs ever! One of my other favorite songs was surprisingly 'Peaceful Easy Feeling'. Deacon Frey ended up singing it, and he started it off by stating, "I'm going to sing one that my dad used to sing, if that's okay with you." It was a great tribute to his father, and he did a fantastic job with the song.
Overall, all I can say is that it was simply just classic. I am so thankful to have an opportunity to see such a legendary band who have truly surpassed the test of time. And of course, I'm super thankful that my parents introduced me to them and let me come to the show (so thanks dad for the tickets for my birthday present)! If you ever have the chance to see The Eagles, do it! You will be doing yourself a favor by going back in time to the era of The Eagles.
I hope you enjoyed my review of The Eagles in concert, and you can keep up with my concert going on my Instagram highlights if you want to see more.
