The Final Boom: A Halloween with Palaye Royale
Well, Happy belated Halloween everyone! And while it has been awhile, let me tell you about the spectacular Halloween I had with fashion-art band Palaye Royale.
I first heard of them in May and saw them live on Warped Tour (R.I.P.) in July, and when I found out they were going to be in Dallas on Halloween, I knew I had to go. They are the perfect band to see on Halloween, because their aesthetic and music really just adds a haunting feeling to the night (Remington coming out in full skeleton makeup also added to that feeling).
The concert was in Deep Ellum at Trees Dallas, which I was really excited to go to since I had never been to this particular venue before - they actually have huge trees in the venue, which I thought was pretty cool. We ended getting there a little late, so we missed The Haunt, but got to watch Dead Posey and Bones, which they were both fabulous. With the exception of missing The Haunt, Bones was my favorite opener - they had a fantastic stage presence with intense girl power! All of the openers were actually female-led, which is really progressive and I love that Palaye wants to promote female rock bands as well.
Much like when I saw them in July, I love the way they perform. They have truly such high energy and Remington, Sebastian and Emerson make for a fantastic band (Daniel, their bassist, getting special recognition as well). I, of course, am always star-studded by Sebastian because first of all I think he's beautiful (not even going to hide it) and I love watching him perform, dancing around with his guitar like a 60s rock star. And how could I not mention the crazy antics of Remington? Climbing on top of the drum kit, the stereo system and climbing up on the balcony to hang off of the ceiling. He's insane, but it's a good insane, and it keeps everyone entertained, that's for sure.
Of course there isn't a Palaye show without some drama. The boys stopped not even mid-song right when they got on to defend themselves against a man being rude to them, who was probably drunk. But we got over it quickly and continued the show, and I'm pretty sure they escorted him away from the barricade, and maybe even out of the venue. Who knows. But a fun thing to counter that unfortunate event was a proposal! Remington dedicated 'Ma Chérie' to a guy named Cody, and afterwards, they brought Cody up on stage and he proposed to his girlfriend (You can see the video of it on Palaye Royale's Instagram). It was very sweet, and how cool is that to have been on stage when proposing?
Overall, I really enjoy watching Palaye as a whole. They played a few unreleased tracks, they covered 'Teenagers' by My Chemical Romance, and played new singles from Boom Boom Room: Side B. If you ever get the chance to see them and you like some good rock music, go check them out! Their shows are truly a blast and their stage presence is intriguing. You are seeing quite the show when you go to see Palaye. Getting to see them on Halloween was definitely a bonus, because how else would you want to spend your Halloween than with an incredibly rockin' band!
